This album was unnoticed when first released in 1964. Later on, when Simon & Garfunkel had their first radio successes (around 1966), they re-released it.
In my opinion, the essence of this genius duet is distilled into that record. I particularly like Benedictus (divine harmonies), He Was My Brother, Bleecker Street (sheer poetry in this one, highly symbolic: the fog coming like a shroud over the city deals with the theme of creative sterility according to Art Garfunkel…), Sparrow (Quite symbolic too: The oak tree represents greed, the swan, vanity, and the wheat, hypocrisy), Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. (really smooth melody and beautiful lyrics) and of course the first version of The Sounds of Silence (just classic).Since I first heard it, Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. became one of my classic folk albums, I highly recommend it to all those of you who never heard of it, it’s just beautiful.
